Pigmentation can be notoriously difficult to treat. But it’s not impossible.
Stubborn pigmentation? If you’ve had disappointing experiences with lasers previously, PICO could be for you.
Hyperpigmentation is the number one skincare concern in Australia and it affects all ethnicities. Whether it’s sun-induced or hormonal, skin discolouration occurs when cells called melanocytes are stimulated to produce excess pigment. It may be superficial or lie deep within the structure of the skin – either way, in some instances, it can be incredibly challenging to treat.
PICO. Our secret weapon.
Pigmentation cannot be cured, but it can be kept under control with the right treatments and skincare.
There are several non-surgical technologies on the market, including Enlighten III by Cutera, which features three integrated wavelengths and can be fitted with an attachment that not only treats pigmentation, but also minimises and, in some cases, removes scarring and fine lines.
At Australian Skin Face Body, we have the Enlighten III available at our Geelong, Ballarat and now Warrnambool Clinics.
The Enlighten III device works on different types of pigmentation, including congenital and resistant forms, and targets discolouration within the skin without damaging the surrounding tissue.
It’s important that the lesions be checked by a skin doctor before the appointment to ensure they are benign prior to treatment.
We are also seeing great results in treating Melasma, a common form of skin pigmentation marked by brown – grey patches on the face. Typically difficult to treat, Melasma can occur during pregnancy and become an ongoing concern for some women.
PICO. Tattoo Removal.
The technology that treats pigmentation can also be used to remove tattoos or to lighten them so a new one can be inked over the top.
Not all pigment lasers can treat tattoos, but PICO can and that’s good news for the one in four people who get a tattoo and later regret it.
Preventing Pigmentation
Our dermal team may suggest an annual follow-up, depending on the depth and result after the first treatment. Non-Caucasian clients in particular may require yearly procedures, as pigmentation can be more difficult to treat in those with a deeper skin tone.
For faster healing and better results, be sure to follow our recommended skincare regimen. Use the products before your treatment – and keep going with them afterwards – to prevent the discolouration from making an unwelcome comeback. These products work with your skin to help prevent the production of pigmentation.
